"Duwamish Indian Bark Vests"

Newcomers to the West Seattle neighborhood, like me,  are looked down upon by "old-time West Seattle residents," generally speaking, those who have lived here 50 or 60 years. Then I come to find out that THEY were relatively new here just like I am, because the Duwamish Indians have lived here for some five thousand years. Hey, that's 4950 years earlier!  Seattle was even named after their leader, Chief Sealth, in the 1850's.  Currently the federal government does not recognize this tribe, but I sure do. They are the ones wearing those bark vests.
